Red Rocks Again

Did Red Rocks again tonight after work.

Was not too bad going out. Had a little walk period at Red Rocks then back.

Was a big struggle getting back, and it seemed like I was going very slow.

Got back and my calvess were hurting. I know how John feels now when he complains about his calves.

Anyway I am really pleased to be getting the distance in!!!

Tuesday 21 April 2009

New Route

New Route tonight!! Quite a good route but maybe a little unsafe if it was getting dark.

Went out towards Moreton and went over the railway lines near the lighthouse then back along the prom.

My Trainers are becoming more comfortable. Must be wearing them in.

Details to come.

Sunday 19 April 2009

Red Rocks

Went to Red Rocks today (Just).

A few brief walking periods but I got there and back.

Route Details to come.

Sunday 28 September 2008

Prom Night

Went out along the prom for the usual shorter route.

Feeling good tonight (I think i am better running in the evening) and had no real problems. Got to the end of the prom on the return just before Bennetts Lane and I actually had the energy to push the pace a little and speed up on the last part.

Felt good to be able to do it.

Start Time: 19:55
Distance: 4.84km

Saturday 27 September 2008

Afternoon Trot (Slog)

Went out this afternoon about 15:30 ish. It was quite warm but didnt expect it to affect me.

Did my extended prom loop and reached the end of the prom no problem. Started to go back after a brief time walking and felt awful. Saw Johns missus running with her kids in tow on bikes which was nice. Slow going up to past the tennis courts where there is a little shelter and had to stop and walk again.

Started up again and did the rest. Not feeling good at all.

Start time: 15:30
Distance: 6.60 km

Thursday 18 September 2008

Nice Evening

I had to go out tonight as it was fantastic.

Did the extended prom loop again and there was just a gentle breeze, Nice!!!!

Found it hard on the way back and stopped for about 30 seconds not long past the tennis courts. Caught my breath and carried on.

I am going slow at the moment. I hope I speed up.

Start Time: 18:50
Distance: 6.60 km

Tuesday 16 September 2008

The Night (T)Rain

Went out again tonight and did my extended prom loop.

Was a little foggy tonight, and a drizzle all the way round in the dark.

Start Time: 20:00
Distance: 6.60 km

Monday 15 September 2008

Night Run

Started late tonight and was expecting wind and rain.

Luckily I got neither which was a bonus as I was struggling tonight.

Did my usual prom route and found it tough near the end.

Start Time: 21:10
Distance: 4.84km

Monday 1 September 2008

A little disappointing but I havent been back at it long.

Extended Prom Loop

Tonight I went out quite late and was going to do my normal prom loop.

Set out and felt alright all the way to the turning point opposite Hoyle Road. Feeling good I kept on going all the way to the end of the Prom and touched the wall and straight back.

Started feeling a little tired on the way back just past the new http://www.hoylakelifeboat.org.uk/ but then after the tennis courts I was ok again.

Anyway I was feeling good enough to actually pick up the pace towards the end which is a first.

Feeling good tonight but I definitely need new trainers as my feet hurt tonight and my shins are a little sore.

Start Time: 20:30
Distance: 6.61 km

Thursday 28 August 2008

3 in 3

I thought I would take from this site http://eightin8.blogspot.com/ for my title today.

There is a difference of course, this guy is doing 12 marathons, whereas I have done 3 5km runs in 3 nights.

Anyway tonight was the Water Works Loop for a change. Started out earlier and it went ok. I felt tired towards the end, maybe because I am used to the wind behind on the way back on the Prom Loop.

Start Time: 17:35
Distance: 4.74Km

Wednesday 27 August 2008

Prom

Again the prom beckoned last night.

Seems to be a handy run as it was getting a little dark by the time I got out.

A little colder today as it was a bit later but the wind was less. Felt slightly stonger on the final kilometre (despite the sore leg and cold) so feel good about it.

Start time: 20:00
Distance: 4.84km

Tuesday 26 August 2008

Another Prom Loop

Prom loop again, a little earlier than normal.

Fairly strong breeze going out but it was warm so not too bad. Tough going as I have a cold and a sore leg at the moment but the running seems to help the leg.

Start Time: 17:40
Distance: 4.84 km

Monday 18 August 2008

Prom

Did my usual Prom loop tonight. Nice evening and was just starting to spit as I got back so timed it nicely. New Lifeboat station is looking good.

Start Time: 08:20
Distance: 4.84 km

Cycle

I have not added any entries for the last couple of months as I have not had the chance or inclination. I have been on a few runs over that period but cant remember the dates/times etc.

I was motivated to add this entry as its a little different.

It was my sister-in-laws wedding on Friday 4th July and the reception was held at Inglewood Manor on the way to Chester. All our family went and we took the car and left it overnight and got a taxi back. It was a great wedding and thoroughly enjoyed it.

For some reason i didnt have too much of a thick head the next day and I knew I had to go and get the car from Inglewood. I dont know why but I wanted to cycle there, pick up the car and drive back.

I was just about to set off when my eldest son piped up that he wanted to come. I was over the moon to get some company and thought it would be a great advanture.

Anyway we took the main road through Hoylake, then along the cinder path to West Kirby and then onto the Wirral way at West Kirby opposite the Concourse.

We then went along the Wirral way all the way, through Heswall, Neston until we came off near to Inglewood and went on the roads for 10 minutes before arriving.

We took a pack lunch and some drinks and a couple of Mars bars for some bursts of energy but it was absolutely amazing. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and I never knew it went so far along the Wirral.

We got to the car, put the bikes in the back and drove home. I went on google pedometer and measured it (I will post link shortly).

I recommend the Wrrial way if you are after a long bike ride as it was just straight forward, safe and pretty much flat all the way.

Distance was: 15.45 miles.

Great Stuff!!!

Wednesday 30 April 2008

Chilly

Went out again for the prom loop but a little later tonight. I didnt anticipate it to be too chilly but when you get onto that prom it can all change.

It was windy into my face and felt cold on my arms and ears as I went towards the tennis courts but I was ok with it. Then turned back and headed for home and unfortunately got a little bit of a stitch which I ran through to get home.

Felt good today but dont know how fast it was.

Start Time: 20:10
Distance: 4.84 km

Thursday 24 April 2008

Another Prom Loop

Went out for another Prom Loop in what I thought was going to be a calm night.

When I got onto the prom the wind was right into my face but it wasnt cold. Anyway tough getting up to the turn and was tired coming back.

Put the stopwatch on this one to see where I am at.

Came in at a shade under 25 minutes. I still have a way to go.

Start Time: 19:30
Distance: 4.84 km
Time: 24:54

Wednesday 23 April 2008

Another Nice Evening

Could not believe how nice it was again tonight. My son had just got a new pair of trainers especially for athletics / running and so wanted to try them out.

We went on a little variation of the prom loop and I must say he does pretty well considering he is only nine.

Anyway we went down Park road, onto School Lane, across onto the main Birkenhead road and then through the park and back along the prom to home. A nice little run

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1832838

Thoroughly enjoyed it again with the nice weather.

Tuesday 22 April 2008

Fantastic Evening

When you have this type of evening you cant ask for anything more.

I actually enjoyed the run tonight. The sun was out, a breeze but not too strong, and running down the prom the views were great.

Usual Prom loop tonight, nothing of interest in terms of the running but felt a little more comfortable than before.

Just a great enjoyable jog.

Sunday 20 April 2008

Prom Loop (Again)

Did my prom loop again today but had the nice company of my son.

He went on his bike and I trotted round on my shanks.

Not much to say apart from the wind was going the other way from usual and was a killer on the way back.

Two walking periods of about 20 seconds.

Just gotta keep going.

Wednesday 16 April 2008

Football - I never knew I could ache that much

As I was in the office down south all week I normally dont get to do any running. One of the guys asked if I would be interested in a game of football with him and some guys that he plays with on Astro Turf.

I said I would be up for it so played at 12:30 and it was 7-a-side. I could not believe how unfit I felt. I did about 10 minutes and was absolutely knackered. Huffing and puffing I opted for a stint in goal and then skinned my knee on the Astro turf (lethal stuff).

I then took it easier for the rest of the game and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was aching afterwards and for the next two days after.

Totally different to running which is constant pace.

Hope to do that every time I am down at the office.

Friday 11 April 2008

Here comes the rain again

I decided to go for a lunchtime run today and looking outside saw the sun and so put my shorts and T-Shirt on instead of the Tracksuit bottoms and Hooded top which I have needed on most other runs this year.

Any way set off to do the Prom Loop and was fine until about 1/3 of the way along the prom towards the lifeboat station and then it just turned.

Rain started coming and the wind was horrendous. Plodded on but only went to the beginning of the prom where it splits and you can go left or right past the tennis courts.

Turned back from there and made it back home with the wind behind me (but still had the rain).

Probably about 4km. Very tough going again and painful chest when finished.

Wednesday 9 April 2008

Short run with my son

Had a chance to go out for a very short run with my son. He wanted to go at first but when we got going he wanted to cut it short.

Just ended up doing a round the block really but it got the heart going for about 10 mins.

It was a lovely evening all the same and worked out to just over a mile.

Tuesday 8 April 2008

WooHoo

Ok I finally started again.

Set off today to do my Water Works Loop and I knew it was going to be hard work after not running for about 6 weeks, maybe more.

It was a sheer struggle the whole way with that burning feeling in my thoat/chest the whole way round. I am seriously out of shape.

Made it round at least with the only stop being the crossing of the railway line.

At least its a start again, I have to keep going with it this time (hopefully the weather will be getting better now)

Friday 22 February 2008

Another Windy Prom Loop

Out again tonight to make it two for the week (record so far this year).

Windy prom route as normal but not as bad as the other week.

Set off about 20:00 and no timing again. Its still feeling very much like hard work but I am not surprised.

Just need to try and keep going.

Tuesday 19 February 2008

Evening Meols Prom Loop - Not as Bad

Went out this evening as I noticed that the wind was not so strong and I had some energy for a change!!

It was very cold out but no rain and no wind makes for good running.

Very very tough going for me at the moment as every time I run its like running for the first time as the gap in between is a week or more.

Anyway trudged the usual Meols prom route in the dark again. I cant wait for the lighter nights.

No timing, not until I start doing things more regularly.

Tuesday 29 January 2008

Very Very Tough Prom Loop

Went out tonight to do my prom loop as its been a week since my first and last run of the year ( :-> ).

The wind was unbelieveable and typically into my face as I went along the prom towards the new lifeboat station. I dont remember it being this strong ever on previous runs.

Going was very slow and at one point I felt like stopping but didn't!!

I was totally shattered by the turnaround point and plodded back home.

Very tired afterwards and could feel it in my legs a little.

I timed it this time and it didnt surprise me at what it was:

Start Time: 19:30
Duration: Just under 27 mins
Avg Speed: 10.75 kph / 6.68 mph

At least I am sure I can improve on this !!!!!!

Monday 21 January 2008

2008 Here we come!!

Hello again!!

I have started my running again for 2008.

Went out last night in the horrible wind and slight drizzle. I had the wind behind me going down the prom but did not want to face it on the way back so cut through Queens park and then back through the houses and down School Lane then onto Park road and back home.

I took it easy and didnt bother to time as I wanted to just get going again without any pressure.

Lets see how things go (need to get rid of some of this Christmas weight).

Monday 26 November 2007

Prom Loop (Drizzle)

Did my prom loop again (as its the only one that is lit during the evening).

Making progress to get back to previous levels but its going to be tough I can tell.

Details:

Start Time: 19:55
Duration: 25:06 minutes
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 11.57 kph / 7.19 mph

Thursday 22 November 2007

Prom Loop (Struggle)

Started back running today after a couple of months without doing any and boy did I know about it.

Did my prom loop with the wind behind on the way out and right in my face on the way back. Very tough and I was very tired.

Met a friend Steve on the way back who I found out runs five times a week (impressive).

Just managed to get home cold and tired and it felt like when I first started back earlier this year:

Details:
Start Time: 19:55
Duration: 26:33 minutes
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 10.94 kph / 6.80 mph

Dismall but just goes to show how quickly you lose fitness.

Friday 12 October 2007

Red Rocks

Made it to Red Rocks this time.

Ok getting there. Real struggle getting back.

Funny feeling afterwards. Had a shower and a bit of a rest but then starting to feel clammy and sweating all on my back.

Maybe over did it.

Stats:
Start Time: 12:10
Duration: 48:26
Distance: About 9.5km i think.
Avg Speed: 11.77 kph / 7.31 mph

Not bad

Whats Wrong With Me?

I haven't been feeling well for a couple of weeks and i can't quite put my finger on it. Its tiredness and a bit of a queasy feeling.

Its not really bad but just doesn't make you want to go for a run.

Anyway with that in mind this is what I dont understand. I went for a run today not feeling good. Set off on my Water Works route at a slowish pace. Felt sluggish and tired all the way round.

I get back expecting a poorish time and I get something half decent (for me). I just dont get it. I obviously still dont know what pace I am running at yet.

Details:
Start Time: 15:30
Duration: 22:41 minutes
Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 12.54 kph / 7.79 mph

This isnt half bad!!!

Wednesday 26 September 2007

Water Works

Went for the Water Works loop today as it was blowing a gale and didnt fancy taking on the Prom in those conditions.

Set out fast (probably too fast) and after not too long was feeling knackered. Noticed my nose was streaming on the way round, I think I am coming down with something.

Got to the half way point at the BP Garage tired and continued round. Hard going on the way back and not really able to pick up the pace much on the last section over the railway.

When I got back and had finished my chest was killing me. Reminded me of when I used to run 400m back at school, you know when your chest is burning. I put it down to the cold wind and not being 100% and not being too fit!!!

Details:
Start Time: 12:15
Duration: 22:27 minutes
Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 12.67 kph / 7.87 mph

Hoped for a little bit faster and its not my PB on this route either. Never mind!!

Friday 21 September 2007

Half Way to Red Rocks

Set out to do the prom route and go beyond and managed to do this as the wind and weather made it possible.

Anyway, i went the full length of the prom, up The Kings Gap and down Stanley road about half way until turning right down Beach Road then onto Barton Road back to the Kings Gap and back on the prom all the way along again and then up Bennett's Lane and home.

I certainly felt the distance on this one. All the way back seemed a struggle and i thought I was not going too well.

Gmap

Main thing is I made it.

Details:
Start Time: 17:45
Duration: 40:24 minutes
Distance: 8.17 km
Avg Speed: 12.13 kph / 7.54 mph

After just working the Avg Speed out I am pleased with that one.

One thing I did notice was that my feet and calves were hurting a little and I haven't changed my trainers in as long as I can remember. I think I need to start looking.

Wednesday 19 September 2007

Prom Loop - Very Wet and Windy

Set off tonight with the intention of at least doing my extended prom route, maybe even a bit more.

It didn't seem like it was too windy before I started but once I got onto the prom it was raining and the wind was wicked into my face.

I ploughed along through the rain and wind until I got to the tennis courts and I felt quite tired so turned at this point and came back with the wind behind. Running into the wind really takes it out of you!!!

Anyway back home feeling tired tonight and not a quick time (i hope because of the conditions)

Details:
Start Time: 19:10
Duration: 24:03 minutes
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 12.01 kph / 7.50 mph

Tuesday 18 September 2007

Extended Prom Route

Went for an extended version of my prom loop to get a bit of distance again tonight. Not too far as it was late and getting dark (I am not going to enjoy the winter nights I think).

Just did the prom from Bennett's lane up to the King's Gap and back again. Wind strong against on the way there but nice behind on the way back.

Felt pretty good tonight.

Gmap Route

Details:
Start Time: 19:30
Duration: 33:43 Minutes
Distance: 6.61 km
Avg Speed: 11.76 kph / 7.31 mph

Looking forward to getting a heart beat monitor so I can see how hard I am pushing myself. Speed not too hot though.

Saturday 15 September 2007

Prom Loop - Struggle

Back to it again after 9 days without a run and totally shattered after a week of late-ish nights, beer, and stodgy food.

Didnt want to run but had to get back on the horse so did it anyway.

The only way i can describe this run is a struggle from start to finish. Just didnt feel good about it and wanted to stop many times. Had the prom wind (quite strong) into my face on the way out and the wind behind on the way back.

Details:
Start time: 16:00
Duration: 23:47 minutes
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 12.21 kph / 7.59 mph

Thursday 6 September 2007

Prom Loop Again!

Nice evening again with a little more breeze than Tuesday. I didnt have a great deal of time as it was getting late so went for a normal distance run for me.

Started out a little slower today as I really wasnt in the mood for pushing it. Obviously felt much better on the way down to the tennis courts on the prom due to this.

Turned and headed back with the wind in my face but had more energy. Towards the end I started to ramp the pace up as I was able to and nicked back home in a reasonable time.

Good run! Just need to do the same on longer ones!!!

Details:
Start time: 20:15
Duration: 23:03 minutes
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 12.6 kph / 7.83 mph

Nice Evening - Prom Loop

I had to go out tonight for a run as it was a great evening so I stole away before dinner with my son on his bike.

Took the usual prom route that i did and felt good so thought I would go for it. Surprisingly the backs of my legs were aching when i got going. I thought I was ok from yesterday as my legs hadnt ached up until that point at all.

Still went for it anyway but was very out of breath when I got back home. My son made me feel better by going miles ahead of me making me look even slower ;->.

Anyway in the end i suppose its a goodish time for me as its a new PB for that route but I thought it might have been quicker with the effort I put in.

I will settle for what I got and keep at it. Currently my legs are aching at the backs and a little on the thighs. I think I will rest tomorrow.

Incidently my son arrived home 5 minutes before me at around 18 mins (he was on his bike!!!)

Details:

Start time: 17:45
Duration: 23:00 mins
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 12.63 kph / 7.85 mph

Monday 3 September 2007

Leasowe Lighthouse Loop

Today I stretched myself once more.

I decided to increase my distance after not running for a while to get back into it. I had planned a run for a while that I had not managed to pluck up the courage to do until now.

It goes as follows:

Start off the run as per the Water Works Loop but when I got to the BP garage where I normally turn left I went straight on. I continued all the way along over the crossroads with the little Tesco then on into Moreton and to Moreton cross roundabout.

Then I turned left at the roundabout and went all the way along Pasture Road passing Moreton Station and the Cadburys factory on my right.
Then I passed the Tarran Industrial Estate with the Moreton Hills Golf Club on my left before turning left down Lingham Lane towards Leasowe Lighthouse.

Carried on passed the Lighthouse onto the prom where the wind was against me (but not too badly) and then all the way along back onto Bennett's Lane, right into Park road and home.

Gmap route

Details:

Start Time: 19:15
Duration: 45:20 minutes
Distance: 8.78 km
Avg speed: 11.62 kph / 7.22 mph

I took it easy to start with as my main goal was to make it round. I did this which was great and the time is ok. I would have liked better but I will settle for that.

I need to do this route a few times to see where I can improve.

Saturday 25 August 2007

Holiday Run

Only had the inclination or chance to get one run in on holiday. I only had the Keycamp representatives info for the distance but it seems about right:

Details:
Start time: 15:30
Duration: 19:09
Distance: 4km
Avg Speed: 12.53kph / 7.79 mph

Not bad but was very hot wish made it tough.

Sunday 19 August 2007

Weird one again!! Water works

Went to do my Water works run again today. Set off at what I thought was an ok pace but nothing special.

Got to the bottom of the hill past the train station and felt awful again. Struggling to keep my pace and breathing very heavily. I obviously dropped my pace after this and struggled on.

After the railway crossing I didn't have any energy to pick up the pace as I had done previously and just made it back.

Anyway after again what I thought was an awful run it turned out to be ok. I really dont quite know yet what pace I am running at!!!

Details:
Start Time: 16:15
Duration: 22:36 minutes
Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 12.58 kph / 7.82 mph

Thursday 16 August 2007

New run - Not a route really

Went for a different run today trying to get a bit more distance and boy did I feel it.

Started off as usual down Bennett's Lane and instead of going left on the usual prom route I turned right and went along the embankment/sea defence toward Wallasey.

I dunno whether it was an off day or something but I didnt feel very good on the whole run!!

I went past the lighthouse and carried on a bit longer until i came to a sign where i turned back and went into the wind. The wind wasn't that bad but you could tell the difference.

Slogged it all the way back feeling like I wanted to stop all the time (as usual).

Made it back but felt I should have done better. I cant think of a decent name for this route as its just a straight back and forth run.

Details(if i got the right sign):

Google Pedometer Link

Start time: 17:30
Duration: 33.24
Distance: 6.6km
Avg Speed: 11.85 kph (didnt have Mikes spreadsheet to hand so might be wrong)

All I can say is that its tough building the distance up from what you are used to. I agree with you John, there are some of us who just make it look easy, eh Steve!!!!!

Monday 13 August 2007

Back to it again: Prom - Quickest yet!!

Ran the prom route as it was quiet on the wind front!!

Will update details when I get a chance...

Water Works - Felt good and went for it

I had been playing football in the garden and driveway with my eldest son and had broken a sweat as he has unending amounts of energy. It got to about 20:00 and I wanted to go for a run as I hadnt been since Monday.

I read some stories to my youngest son and then set out with my eldest on the Water Works loop (he was on his bike). Now I felt like I was up for it today!!

Set off at a good pace up the railway hill and down without slowing, along the Meols stretch where I guess I slowed up a little and got into my rhythm. I was looking at my stopwatch a little more on this run and found that i got to the Petrol Station turning to go down Carr Lane at 10:30 minutes or thereabouts.

Carried on battling all the way back until I got to the other side of the railway line and onto the last part of Carr Lane before joining up with Park Road where I then looked at the stopwatch again. It was on 20:20 or something similar and I knew I had a chance of getting my best time here if I pushed it.

I picked up the pace (and was able to) and went for home!!!

Details:

Start Time: 20:20
Duration: 22:16
Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 12.77 kph
7.94 mph

Very pleased with this but tired afterwards.

Monday 30 July 2007

Water Works Loop. Needed it!

Went for my usual Water Works loop. I definitely needed this as I hadnt run since last Wednesday and felt like I needed to go for a run.

I didnt feel like i was up for it but battled my way through. Found it tough trying to pick up the pace near the end and didnt really make a difference.

Details:

Start Time: 19:10
Duration: 23:11
Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 12.27 kph
7.62 mph

Not bad.

More to follow......

Tennis Anyone?

Played tennis with my mate Rob. Good game!!

I wrote a post for this but I deleted it by accident so just the result now as I dont have time to rewrite.

I won 6-4 7-6 (7-1) good game followed by a couple of pints in the White Lion

Wednesday 25 July 2007

Its a Funny Old Game

Thats what they say in football but I reckon it applies to running as well. Mike what do you reckon?

I set off on my usual Water Works loop at what I thought was my normal pace. I got over the hill past Meols station and started down when I felt quite tired. I dont know what it was but was really struggling to get a good pace (i thought).

I carried on along the Meols stretch still struggling and wondering why. It carried on from here the whole way round. I seemed to not have the energy.

Anyway I got to the Railway line and as I crossed I got out my stopwatch which was on about 18-19 mins I think. I thought to myself thats not too bad considering what I thought I was performing like.

So after crossing I made a concerted effort to pick up the pace to try and get a reasonable time. Still feeling it I did manage to get faster.

In the end i got a PB. Thats why I say its a funny old game. Sometimes you think you are performing badly and you are actually going very well and others you think you have done well and its just mediocre.

Back to it!! Water Works

Havent run since Thursday night and thought I was in for a tough one (not that it isnt always tough anyway :->).

Did the waterworks loop as it looked a bit windy. Missed the rain so pleased about that. Not too much to say about this one apart from at points in the run i had a bit of energy!! What i mean by that is that the whole way round I wasnt just hanging on by a thread to make it.

It felt slightly better today (but was still tough).

Prom Loop. Nice Evening

Went a bit later tonight as my son and my missus went out for a bike ride and didnt get back to a little later. I put my youngest to sleep after reading stories (he was tired tonight).

Set off and went for the Prom loop again as I do like it when there is not much wind. Going was ok for the first third I would say then I felt a little tired. Got to the turning point around the bottom of the tennis courts and started to come back heading home.

Got to the point where I have walked quite a few times on this run and believe me I wanted to again but I resisted and carried on all the way back. I definitely felt my speed slow on the way back.

Fairly tough coming back up Bennet's lane and to home but I made it no stops which I am pleased with.

Details:
Start Time: 20:30
Duration: 23:51
Distance: 4.84 (from Johns new calculation)
Avg Speed: 12.18kph

Again my pace is above 12kph. Pleased again but tonight I actively tried to go that bit faster. It was tough but worth it.

I have a question for all fellow runners out there:
When I run I find that I cannot breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth. Its always in and out through my mouth. What does everyone else do?
Just wondered!

Water Works Loop With John

I have had a nightmare recently trying to get my Broadband renewed and I finally have got it back so I can now post my results for latest runs.

This run was my first run with mate John. I was a little worried about not being able to make the pace as he is pretty quick but he was a gent and stayed with me all the way and kept to my pace. Thanks John.

Anyway this was the water works loop. John ran to my house and then we set off together at my normal pace. I'm still not full over my cold/man flu and John mentioned that I sounded chesty. I told him I always sound that bad hehe.

Anyway nothing too eventfull in this run. john tried to talk to me while on the run and to start with this was ok but after a couple of km I was toast and couldn't utter more than 'yes' or 'no' in response. Quite amusing!

Made it around without stopping (I tend to on this run anyway) and John said he tried to speed up slightly on the last bit but I dont think I responded to it.

Had a chat on my back lawn afterwards and one of the topics was running watches/equipment. I am thinking of buying a watch/heart rate monitor/GPS device in the future and john had some suggestions.

Here are a couple. Anyone think these are good/worth it or are there any better ones:

Garmin Forerunner 305

Polar RS200 SD Black

Results:
Start Time: 13:15
Duration: 23:24
Distance: 4.74km
Avg Speed: 12.15kph (wow for me)

Ok this is my first run at over 12kph which I am impressed with!! Next run with John probably 2 weeks on Friday as he is off on his hols next week. Enjoy John.

Back To It! Prom Loop

Started back running again today. Stepped outside at 7pm tonight intending to go for the Water Works Loop but it was very calm so I decided to go for the Prom Loop instead.

Started out down Bennet's lane feeling ok. Went onto the prom and felt like I was going slightly slower than I have done before but felt that was all I could manage.

As I still have my cough it was a little harder breathing. Anyway I got to the tennis courts part and was struggling. I went round the loop part and set off back but just as I reached the end of tennis courts I had to walk.

Walked for about 1 1/2 minutes and then started back up at a slower pace. Not feeling that good about it. Managed to get all the way back after the walk.

Coughing for while after the run but ok now.

Details:
Start Time: 19:00
Duration: 25:31
Distance: 4.9 km
Avg Speed: 11.52 kph

Ok after doing the calculation here this seems to be my best time for this route. I am very impressed with this as it includes a walk and what I thought was a poor pace.

Next time its Wednesday running with John. Wish me luck!!

Unwell

Havent done any running since last Wednesday as I have had 'Man Flu' as my missus puts it.
Will update when i get back to it.

Very Tough Water Works Loop

Judging by the wind today I decided to go with the Water Works Loop as it is much more sheltered than my prom route.

I had been feeling pretty rough all day today with a dodgy stomach and I wasn't going to run but my missus told me to get out there and that I would be alright so I did.

This run felt very tough going as I already had a bit of a cough and it seemed like I was heavy and slow on my feet. There were many times when I thought about just stopping and walking for a little while but I managed to keep going which I was pleased about.

Anyway I managed to get around the circuit without stopping but struggled all the way.

Stats:
Start Time: 19:20
Duration: 23:56 minutes
Distance: 4.7 km
Avg. Speed: 11.78 kph

I am pleased with this result for what I thought was a slow and very tough run. Afterwards my back was pretty sore and the cough was pretty bad but I feel ok now.

Water Works Loop Again

Did a nice Water works loop as per previous post.

Things a little easier this time.

Nothing much to say about this one. Nice evening!

Start Time: 19:20

Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 12.08 kph

I reckon that time might be my best for a while.

New Route. I will call it the Water Works Loop

Okay I'm pleased with this route. Picked it from Google Maps and its perfect on distance with the added bonus of no Prom Wind (Wahey!!).

Started off left onto Park Road this time and down Dovepoint road and onto Birkenhead road. Up the hill over past Meols railway station and all the way along the Meols stretch to just past the BP garage.

Turned left here onto Carr Lane and all the way along there to the railway line where I had to stop to check for trains. Then over the railway line continuing on Carr Lane until meeting back up with Park Road and then home.

Ok now I didnt feel too bad for most of the run. It only started to feel like really hard work after crossing the railway line and the last bit.

Good news. No sore throat and no cough!!!

Route: Google Pedometer

Start Time: 17:00
Duration: 23:53
Distance: 4.74 km
Avg Speed: 11.91 kph

Quite pleased with this run considering this is only my third week at it.

Definitely the most painful!!

Looked like a lovely sunny day today so decided to go for my usual route at 17:30 before dinner. I didnt realise it was going to be so windy.

Set of with it a bit blowy down Bennet's lane then onto the prom where the wind was right in my face all the way going away from Meols. Struggled all the way to the loopback part but had nothing left in me for the way back. I had to just steadily crawl back at a slowish pace.

The last part back up Bennet's lane and back to home I really started to feel out of breath and when I finished i felt pretty awful.

Anyone else had this? I had aquired a cough and my throat was burning. Also my calfs were aching. Maybe I'm not cut out for this running lark.

Anyway I made it round without stopping but the time shows that the wind really did me in.

Details

Start time: 17:30
Duration: 25:39 minutes
Distance: 4.84km (updated with John calculation)
Avg Speed: 11.32 kph

If the distance is correct then I suppose its alright and it looks like I am improving but I hope the pain is not that bad every time!!

Have I got this Right?

After doing the Prom loop with a twist I had a hard time with the fact that the two runs were only 50 metres different in length. I therefore went back on the pedometer and performed the marking again for my original Prom loop and cam eout with the following:

Google Pedometer Link

Before I go and update my distances and times etc John or Mike can you confirm I have got this right please.

Very Windy Prom Loop With Twist

Decided to go out Monday evening even with the blowing gale. My son was insistent on coming on his scooter also so we set off intending to do the normal Prom route.

Had the wind behind me all the way down the prom towards Hoylake and I felt like I was flying. We then turned to come back and the wind hit us big time.

It was a struggle until about Firshaw road when my son complained about earache and being too tired to continue. We walked from then on with little bits of jogging for me now and again. We made the diversion down Dovepoint road to avoid the wind hence the slight change in route.

Considering I walked a fair bit on the way back I was quite pleased with the time. That wind sure did blow me along!!

Quick run to get back to it

Ran a very short one today to get me back into it as I have not done anything since a week last Friday.

My son had his football presentation day today (AC Hoylake) and he wanted to show his medals to his Grandpa so I asked my wife to drop me at our house so I could run round and they would drive round.

I went to get my running kit on but realised that I had left my running shoes in the car and so had to use my tennis style shoes as well.

Anyway I took the usual start to my run along Park road and down Bennett's lane onto the prom. I then ran along the prom, down Sandhey Road and through the park to Birkenhead road.
Then down Carlton lane and through the back way to Sandringham Avenue to my in-laws.

Run Details:

Start Time: 15:15
Distance: 2.84km
Duration: 14:14 minutes
Avg Speed: 11.972

Pedometer details

Ok now that I have worked out the Avg speed using John's spreadsheet it seems a little high to me. John/Mike is this right? If so then maybe I am suited to shorter distances!!! (Not good for the future runs with John!!).

Anyway this seems to be promising. Lets see how I get on this week.

Wednesday 13 June 2007

Hardest yet and just missed the rain!!

Today's run has been the hardest by far. I'm not sure why, it wasn't too hot or windy, just a tough one.
I did the same route as before starting off a little quicker, (which i think was a mistake) down Bennet's lane onto the prom going well.
Got to about Wynstay road and felt really heavy on my feet and breathing very hard. I carried on round the tennis court loop and back on to the prom and felt I had to have a breather so I walked for 30 seconds then started back up again.
Carried on along the prom to the end and had to walk again for about 30 seconds before turning down Bennet's lane again.
The last bit was a killer, I felt really tired!!

Details:
Start Time: 15:00
Duration: 26:18
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 11.04 kph

About the same as last time. At least it wasn't slower. I think I will take a well earned rest now and maybe have a go of FIFA 07on my PS2 tonight that i got for a bargain from Amazon.

Pushing the Blogging Limit

Ok here is my try to outsmart John and Co with Blogtastic effects. Below is the route taken on my first two runs. (This is stll work in progress. Cant get the route displayed at the moment!!)

Monday 11 June 2007

Second Attempt

I went for a later start today as it was just as hot as yesterday in the afternoon. I was impressed with myself for actually wanting to go for a run (I reckon its the thought of having to run with John in a couple of weeks ;->)).
OK so i took the same course except my eldest son tagged along on his bike. Set off down Park Road then Bennett's Lane again onto the prom heading towards Hoylake.
I felt much better at this early stage as it was nowhere near as hot as yesterday. My son was going on ahead egging me on but I stayed at a slow but steady pace (Plus i couldn't hope to keep up).
I dunno about anyone else but I find it difficult to talk, or even look or nod at anyone while running because its such a struggle anyway. So my son was nattering away and all i could do was grunt back at him!!!

Carried on along the prom and didn't really find it that hard until i hit the tennis courts where I was feeling it and persevered nevertheless as I wanted to manage the run without stopping or walking.
Went round the loop and back away from Hoylake now and still feeling it. Felt hot but nowhere near as bad as yesterday.

The rest was a slow struggle all the way back along the prom up Bennett's lane and along Park road to home where I was beaten by my son on his bike.

Details:
Start Time: 19:02
Time Taken: 26:36
Distance: 4.84 km
Avg Speed: 10.92 kph

Its better than last time but i stopped to chat on that one. The main thing was that I managed the whole run without stopping. My legs are stiff as I write this so I will give it a miss tomorrow to recover.

First Run

Sunday 10th June 2007
I set off from home at 15:54 on Park road not going to fast. Went onto Bennet's Lane and then onto the Prom at the end and headed along it towards Hoylake.
Got to where Roman Road meets the prom and met friends Graham and Catherine and family on a family bike ride along the prom. I was very glad of the stop as I was feeling it very badly.
Chatted to them for about five minutes (unfortunately not stopping my watch) and then carried on to the tennis courts where I felt I had to walk for little while.
Started again and did the loop around the tennis courts and headed back along the prom away from Hoylake.
Carried on feeling extremely hot and had a very dry throat (maybe a bit hot today) and it was getting to me. Had to walk a little again between Roman road and Davenport road.
Then did the final stretch back down Bennet's along Park Road and home.
I was shattered by the end but it was more hot and thirsty. While I was running I really felt hot!!

Stopped my watch when I got home at 34 minutes (Ouch!!!)

Not as good as I hoped for my first outing but I tried. Watch this space for my next run of the same course.
