New run - Not a route really

Went for a different run today trying to get a bit more distance and boy did I feel it.

Started off as usual down Bennett's Lane and instead of going left on the usual prom route I turned right and went along the embankment/sea defence toward Wallasey.

I dunno whether it was an off day or something but I didnt feel very good on the whole run!!

I went past the lighthouse and carried on a bit longer until i came to a sign where i turned back and went into the wind. The wind wasn't that bad but you could tell the difference.

Slogged it all the way back feeling like I wanted to stop all the time (as usual).

Made it back but felt I should have done better. I cant think of a decent name for this route as its just a straight back and forth run.

Details(if i got the right sign):

Google Pedometer Link

Start time: 17:30
Duration: 33.24
Distance: 6.6km
Avg Speed: 11.85 kph (didnt have Mikes spreadsheet to hand so might be wrong)

All I can say is that its tough building the distance up from what you are used to. I agree with you John, there are some of us who just make it look easy, eh Steve!!!!!

Your Question:

Mike,
Do you ever fear for yourself when you start to book a few players? Do the players try and intimidate you? Must be a bit hairy at times.

Answer:

Nope. The referee is very well protected. I have two assistant referees who would back up my report if anything were to happen.

The player would serve a very long ban and would receive a very large fine if they were to do anything silly against an official.

Players will try and intimidate you if you let them try. I always do my best to curb this early on.

You have to set your stall out early on in the game. If players think that they can get away with things, then they'll certainly try to do exactly that.

I've been refereeing for some 8 or 9 years now. I am at a semi-professional level. The players are also semi-professional and usually do not attempt to do those same silly things found on a Sunday morning football match between to pub sides. Thankfully!

It was a long way from easy Chris! ...I'm working up to something silly-hard, so need to suffer a bit.

Sounds like you're making great progress. Just keep stretching yourself every now and then - just try half a mile harder, or an unexpected diversion - and you'll be fine.

The rest of us have it much tougher - we plateaued years ago!
