I thought I would take from this site http://eightin8.blogspot.com/ for my title today.
There is a difference of course, this guy is doing 12 marathons, whereas I have done 3 5km runs in 3 nights.
Anyway tonight was the Water Works Loop for a change. Started out earlier and it went ok. I felt tired towards the end, maybe because I am used to the wind behind on the way back on the Prom Loop.

Another Nice Evening
Could not believe how nice it was again tonight. My son had just got a new pair of trainers especially for athletics / running and so wanted to try them out.
We went on a little variation of the prom loop and I must say he does pretty well considering he is only nine.
Anyway we went down Park road, onto School Lane, across onto the main Birkenhead road and then through the park and back along the prom to home. A nice little run

Thoroughly enjoyed it again with the nice weather.

Whats Wrong With Me?
I haven't been feeling well for a couple of weeks and i can't quite put my finger on it. Its tiredness and a bit of a queasy feeling.
Its not really bad but just doesn't make you want to go for a run.
Anyway with that in mind this is what I dont understand. I went for a run today not feeling good. Set off on my Water Works route at a slowish pace. Felt sluggish and tired all the way round.
I get back expecting a poorish time and I get something half decent (for me). I just dont get it. I obviously still dont know what pace I am running at yet.

Water Works
Went for the Water Works loop today as it was blowing a gale and didnt fancy taking on the Prom in those conditions.
Set out fast (probably too fast) and after not too long was feeling knackered. Noticed my nose was streaming on the way round, I think I am coming down with something.
Got to the half way point at the BP Garage tired and continued round. Hard going on the way back and not really able to pick up the pace much on the last section over the railway.
When I got back and had finished my chest was killing me. Reminded me of when I used to run 400m back at school, you know when your chest is burning. I put it down to the cold wind and not being 100% and not being too fit!!!

Prom Loop - Very Wet and Windy
Set off tonight with the intention of at least doing my extended prom route, maybe even a bit more.
It didn't seem like it was too windy before I started but once I got onto the prom it was raining and the wind was wicked into my face.
I ploughed along through the rain and wind until I got to the tennis courts and I felt quite tired so turned at this point and came back with the wind behind. Running into the wind really takes it out of you!!!
Anyway back home feeling tired tonight and not a quick time (i hope because of the conditions)

Weird one again!! Water works
Went to do my Water works run again today. Set off at what I thought was an ok pace but nothing special.
Got to the bottom of the hill past the train station and felt awful again. Struggling to keep my pace and breathing very heavily. I obviously dropped my pace after this and struggled on.
After the railway crossing I didn't have any energy to pick up the pace as I had done previously and just made it back.
Anyway after again what I thought was an awful run it turned out to be ok. I really dont quite know yet what pace I am running at!!!

New run - Not a route really
Went for a different run today trying to get a bit more distance and boy did I feel it.
Started off as usual down Bennett's Lane and instead of going left on the usual prom route I turned right and went along the embankment/sea defence toward Wallasey.
I dunno whether it was an off day or something but I didnt feel very good on the whole run!!
I went past the lighthouse and carried on a bit longer until i came to a sign where i turned back and went into the wind. The wind wasn't that bad but you could tell the difference.
Slogged it all the way back feeling like I wanted to stop all the time (as usual).
Made it back but felt I should have done better. I cant think of a decent name for this route as its just a straight back and forth run.
Details(if i got the right sign):
Google Pedometer Link
Start time: 17:30
Duration: 33.24
Distance: 6.6km
Avg Speed: 11.85 kph (didnt have Mikes spreadsheet to hand so might be wrong)
All I can say is that its tough building the distance up from what you are used to. I agree with you John, there are some of us who just make it look easy, eh Steve!!!!!

Water Works - Felt good and went for it
I had been playing football in the garden and driveway with my eldest son and had broken a sweat as he has unending amounts of energy. It got to about 20:00 and I wanted to go for a run as I hadnt been since Monday.
I read some stories to my youngest son and then set out with my eldest on the Water Works loop (he was on his bike). Now I felt like I was up for it today!!
Set off at a good pace up the railway hill and down without slowing, along the Meols stretch where I guess I slowed up a little and got into my rhythm. I was looking at my stopwatch a little more on this run and found that i got to the Petrol Station turning to go down Carr Lane at 10:30 minutes or thereabouts.
Carried on battling all the way back until I got to the other side of the railway line and onto the last part of Carr Lane before joining up with Park Road where I then looked at the stopwatch again. It was on 20:20 or something similar and I knew I had a chance of getting my best time here if I pushed it.
I picked up the pace (and was able to) and went for home!!!

Water Works Loop. Needed it!
Went for my usual Water Works loop. I definitely needed this as I hadnt run since last Wednesday and felt like I needed to go for a run.
I didnt feel like i was up for it but battled my way through. Found it tough trying to pick up the pace near the end and didnt really make a difference.

Its a Funny Old Game
Thats what they say in football but I reckon it applies to running as well. Mike what do you reckon?
I set off on my usual Water Works loop at what I thought was my normal pace. I got over the hill past Meols station and started down when I felt quite tired. I dont know what it was but was really struggling to get a good pace (i thought).
I carried on along the Meols stretch still struggling and wondering why. It carried on from here the whole way round. I seemed to not have the energy.
Anyway I got to the Railway line and as I crossed I got out my stopwatch which was on about 18-19 mins I think. I thought to myself thats not too bad considering what I thought I was performing like.
So after crossing I made a concerted effort to pick up the pace to try and get a reasonable time. Still feeling it I did manage to get faster.
In the end i got a PB. Thats why I say its a funny old game. Sometimes you think you are performing badly and you are actually going very well and others you think you have done well and its just mediocre.

Prom Loop. Nice Evening
Went a bit later tonight as my son and my missus went out for a bike ride and didnt get back to a little later. I put my youngest to sleep after reading stories (he was tired tonight).
Set off and went for the Prom loop again as I do like it when there is not much wind. Going was ok for the first third I would say then I felt a little tired. Got to the turning point around the bottom of the tennis courts and started to come back heading home.
Got to the point where I have walked quite a few times on this run and believe me I wanted to again but I resisted and carried on all the way back. I definitely felt my speed slow on the way back.
Fairly tough coming back up Bennet's lane and to home but I made it no stops which I am pleased with.
Details:
Start Time: 20:30
Duration: 23:51
Distance: 4.84 (from Johns new calculation)
Avg Speed: 12.18kph
Again my pace is above 12kph. Pleased again but tonight I actively tried to go that bit faster. It was tough but worth it.
I have a question for all fellow runners out there:
When I run I find that I cannot breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth. Its always in and out through my mouth. What does everyone else do?
Just wondered!

Water Works Loop With John
I have had a nightmare recently trying to get my Broadband renewed and I finally have got it back so I can now post my results for latest runs.
This run was my first run with mate John. I was a little worried about not being able to make the pace as he is pretty quick but he was a gent and stayed with me all the way and kept to my pace. Thanks John.
Anyway this was the water works loop. John ran to my house and then we set off together at my normal pace. I'm still not full over my cold/man flu and John mentioned that I sounded chesty. I told him I always sound that bad hehe.
Anyway nothing too eventfull in this run. john tried to talk to me while on the run and to start with this was ok but after a couple of km I was toast and couldn't utter more than 'yes' or 'no' in response. Quite amusing!
Made it around without stopping (I tend to on this run anyway) and John said he tried to speed up slightly on the last bit but I dont think I responded to it.
Had a chat on my back lawn afterwards and one of the topics was running watches/equipment. I am thinking of buying a watch/heart rate monitor/GPS device in the future and john had some suggestions.
Here are a couple. Anyone think these are good/worth it or are there any better ones:
Garmin Forerunner 305
Polar RS200 SD Black
Results:
Start Time: 13:15
Duration: 23:24
Distance: 4.74km
Avg Speed: 12.15kph (wow for me)
Ok this is my first run at over 12kph which I am impressed with!! Next run with John probably 2 weeks on Friday as he is off on his hols next week. Enjoy John.

Very Tough Water Works Loop
Judging by the wind today I decided to go with the Water Works Loop as it is much more sheltered than my prom route.
I had been feeling pretty rough all day today with a dodgy stomach and I wasn't going to run but my missus told me to get out there and that I would be alright so I did.
This run felt very tough going as I already had a bit of a cough and it seemed like I was heavy and slow on my feet. There were many times when I thought about just stopping and walking for a little while but I managed to keep going which I was pleased about.
Anyway I managed to get around the circuit without stopping but struggled all the way.
Stats:
Start Time: 19:20
Duration: 23:56 minutes
Distance: 4.7 km
Avg. Speed: 11.78 kph
I am pleased with this result for what I thought was a slow and very tough run. Afterwards my back was pretty sore and the cough was pretty bad but I feel ok now.

Definitely the most painful!!
Looked like a lovely sunny day today so decided to go for my usual route at 17:30 before dinner. I didnt realise it was going to be so windy.
Set of with it a bit blowy down Bennet's lane then onto the prom where the wind was right in my face all the way going away from Meols. Struggled all the way to the loopback part but had nothing left in me for the way back. I had to just steadily crawl back at a slowish pace.
The last part back up Bennet's lane and back to home I really started to feel out of breath and when I finished i felt pretty awful.
Anyone else had this? I had aquired a cough and my throat was burning. Also my calfs were aching. Maybe I'm not cut out for this running lark.
Anyway I made it round without stopping but the time shows that the wind really did me in.

If the distance is correct then I suppose its alright and it looks like I am improving but I hope the pain is not that bad every time!!

Very Windy Prom Loop With Twist
Decided to go out Monday evening even with the blowing gale. My son was insistent on coming on his scooter also so we set off intending to do the normal Prom route.
Had the wind behind me all the way down the prom towards Hoylake and I felt like I was flying. We then turned to come back and the wind hit us big time.
It was a struggle until about Firshaw road when my son complained about earache and being too tired to continue. We walked from then on with little bits of jogging for me now and again. We made the diversion down Dovepoint road to avoid the wind hence the slight change in route.
Considering I walked a fair bit on the way back I was quite pleased with the time. That wind sure did blow me along!!

Hardest yet and just missed the rain!!
Today's run has been the hardest by far. I'm not sure why, it wasn't too hot or windy, just a tough one.
I did the same route as before starting off a little quicker, (which i think was a mistake) down Bennet's lane onto the prom going well.
Got to about Wynstay road and felt really heavy on my feet and breathing very hard. I carried on round the tennis court loop and back on to the prom and felt I had to have a breather so I walked for 30 seconds then started back up again.
Carried on along the prom to the end and had to walk again for about 30 seconds before turning down Bennet's lane again.
The last bit was a killer, I felt really tired!!

About the same as last time. At least it wasn't slower. I think I will take a well earned rest now and maybe have a go of FIFA 07
on my PS2 tonight that i got for a bargain from Amazon.
