Looked like a lovely sunny day today so decided to go for my usual route at 17:30 before dinner. I didnt realise it was going to be so windy.
Set of with it a bit blowy down Bennet's lane then onto the prom where the wind was right in my face all the way going away from Meols. Struggled all the way to the loopback part but had nothing left in me for the way back. I had to just steadily crawl back at a slowish pace.
The last part back up Bennet's lane and back to home I really started to feel out of breath and when I finished i felt pretty awful.
Anyone else had this? I had aquired a cough and my throat was burning. Also my calfs were aching. Maybe I'm not cut out for this running lark.
Anyway I made it round without stopping but the time shows that the wind really did me in.
Details
Start time: 17:30
Duration: 25:39 minutes
Distance: 4.84km (updated with John calculation)
Avg Speed: 11.32 kph
If the distance is correct then I suppose its alright and it looks like I am improving but I hope the pain is not that bad every time!!

Oh yes! It happens to us all...
You feel both mentally and physically up for your run but then when you set out you feel awful and continue to do so throughout the whole of the run.
Not all runs will be like that, just a few of them.
I always remember a quote in one issue of "Runners World" that said, "There's only one type of bad run and that's the one you don't do at all."
Sometimes, it's all about placing one foot in front of the other and seeing the run out. At least you've done something rather than nothing - and that is very important.
Having said all that you managed to run 4.9km at an averge speed of 11.46kmh, which to be honest is not bad at all. So, don't go being so hard on yourself.
You said, "Maybe I'm not cut out for this running lark."
I say, "Yes you are, all runs will not be like that."
Thanks Mike. Those words of encouragement will help me in this stuggle.
By the way how did your referee fitness test go?
Oooops I meant Struggle
see, I said it was windy on the prom yesterday (only much more so when I was out of course!!)
Remember its a very intense form of exercise - so it will sometimes (often in my case) feel like hardwork.
11.5kph ...you're doing fine!
Hello Chris.
My referee's fitness test is not until Sunday 8th July from 9:00am onwards in Wigan.
I will definitely blog the fitness test shortly afterward.
